CAREER OPPORTUNITY:
The Performance Excellence Senior Manager – Mills is a key business partner to all of the WestRock Paper Mills, providing the link between the Performance Excellence Team and the Mill Leaders (EVPs, SVPs, and General Managers) to build a culture of Continuous Improvement, support overall business strategy, obtain critical support and resources, and execute on a single productivity agenda by ensuring improvement projects are executed effectively and efficiently.  The PE Senior Manager will ensure improvement projects are results focused and executed with excellence.  This role will also share and leverage programs across the enterprise and ensure all projects are aligned to the key business objectives, measurable, and implemented using lean six sigma methods and principles.


The PE Senior Manager – Mills works day to day with the Mill Leaders to help transform the business – meeting performance and productivity objectives.  These objectives include partnering to develop the Play to Win Strategy and executing upon that strategy.  The scope of this role is the entire WestRock mill network - Corrugated and Consumer. The PE Senior Manager – Mills owns the integrity of and provides leadership for all existing and new deployments of Performance Excellence tools across the mill network.

HOW YOU IMPACT WestRock:

  • Participates as a strategic thought partner of the mill divisional leadership teams
  • Merge technical knowledge, experience, and expertise with strong knowledge and passion for continuous improvement to assist Divisional / Region Leadership Teams in building and executing their PE strategy
  • Aligns overall productivity project pipeline with annual financial plan and mill division objectives
  • Ensures divisional leadership are supporting PE processes and providing resources needed to meet their expected annual business and financial contribution
  • Assess the overall Performance Excellence journey and partner with divisional resources to develop countermeasures (resource management, training, measures to identify process drift, etc.)
  • Coach and mentor area/region Continuous Improvement leaders
  • Attend and participate on monthly area/region continuous improvement report out’s and updates to their Leadership Teams
  • Provide training for Lean Six Sigma tools as needed
  • Represent and present divisional Performance Excellence reviews and updates, as required to senior leaders
  • Identify and ensure best practices are identified, shared and implemented, using all tools available to capture best practices and build an effective and searchable “library” for sharing great ideas and best practices with all WestRock sites
  • Will monitor mills’ performance and provide recommendations to the business leaders for deployment of Form and Fold Rapid Improvement Teams
  • Capable of leading, training, coaching, and deploying a Form and Fold Team to provide rapid performance improvement and measurable value delivery in an under-performing Paper Mill
  • Collaborate with all LSS belts to improve processes and increase effectiveness for the entire organization
  • The successful candidate for this position will deliver very strong positive business impact by using all available PE tools across the Mill network, and even more value longer-term through the continuous improvement development and skills that this person will receive, setting up future opportunities to apply that learning and development as they progress through higher-level leadership roles at WestRock

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • BS/BA; Technical Degree and MBA Preferred
  • 10+ relevant years of industry experience with progressive growth in leadership and business impact
  • Must have experience and good working knowledge of mill systems and processes
  • Identified as a high-potential WestRock employee (or equivalent outside candidate) who will benefit greatly from this rotational experience
  • Expected rotation length in this position will be more than 1 year and less than 3 years, to gain the best balance between making an impact in the role and opening the role for developing the next high-potential person
  • Passionate about Continuous Improvement and ability to make others successful
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (can receive certification while in the role) with demonstrated ability to consistently deliver financial results
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, teach, and mentor technical and non-technical knowledge to hourly and salaried employees
  • Strong financial acumen with ability to understand and create financial models used to support program improvement recommendations 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools and familiar with Minitab, Visio, and SharePoint
  • Driven with a sense of urgency to achieve results
  • Clear and effective communicator at all levels
  • Manages and drives change
  • Travel required 75%
