Trade Compliance Specialist Intern - Atlanta, GA

Career Opportunity:

Under the direction of WestRock’s Compliance team, you will be responsible for assisting the Director, Supply Chain Compliance, and the Senior Analyst, Trade Compliance, with the operational and transactional Customs compliance activities for WestRock.

How You Will Impact WestRock:

As the Trade Compliance Specialist Intern, you will assist with daily Customs transactions and help ensure that import and export compliance programs are consistent with U.S., Mexican, Canadian and other countries’ regulations. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist Senior Analyst, Trade Compliance with performing business unit audits of both import and export processes and transactions
  • Assist with responding to Customs’ audits and inquires
  • Assist with Customs Compliance training development and delivery
  • Provide timely responses to requests from internal and external stakeholders
  • Determine tariff classifications and country of origin under guidance of Senior Analyst, Trade Compliance
  • Screen trade partners against denied parties lists to ensure compliance (prior to GTM)
  • Interface with Customs brokers and freight forwarders and assist in developing KPIs
  • Issue NAFTA and other free trade agreement certificates (Prior to GTM)
  • Assist with updating and expanding the Import and Export Management and Compliance program including supporting documentation
  • Assist with Global Trade Management (GTM) software implementation
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative changes relating to Customs Compliance
  • Work on other special projects that may be assigned by the Director such as C-TPAT or process improvement projects in supply chain

What You Need to Succeed:

  •  Enrolled in B.S. or B.A. degree program (Business, Supply Chain, or related field, preferred)
  • Enthusiasm for further technical learning, e.g. (professional certifications for trade compliance professionals)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with an orientation toward details
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and proven ability to multi-task
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25%.
