THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Human Resources Business Partner will help transform Human Resources at WestRock – creating and implementing plans as part of the overall business strategy, while learning the industry firsthand in some of the company’s largest operations. Initial responsibilities will span across Evadale and Silsbee Operations in Texas, with future assignments across WestRock. This is an opportunity for a motivated individual to accelerate his or her development in Human Resources.

 

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT WESTROCK

Some of the key activities include:

  • Learning the WestRock business model and how HR adds value as a strategic partner

  • Be a strategic leader of the HR organization at one of WestRock’s largest mill.  The Sr. HRBP must have labor relations experience and depth of understanding of union environments

  • Managing and interpreting the collective bargaining agreement and contractual disputes between company and union

  • Involvement with the grievance and arbitration process as well as collective bargaining

  • Be involved in the culture transformation taking place at the mill.  Create programs intended to empower and create a sense of ownership at the hourly level

  • Create and implement programs and processes that will drive the culture forward.

  • Considerable focus on talent management for the mill.  Create programs that can be sustainable through the organization that positively impact recruiting and talent development

  • Leading investigations (ethics, discrimination, harassment, etc.)

  • Communicating, applying, and making recommendations for improvement to policies

  • Involvement with our engagement survey results communications and action planning

  • Conducting training sessions

  • Assisting in WestRock’s co-op and co-op recruiting and managing internal internship recruiting and placements

  • Providing support and guidance with compensation and benefits issues

  • Overseeing and supporting new programs in the mill (i.e. apprenticeship program)

  • Monitoring employees out of work on FMLA/STD and facilitating their return to work

  • Monitoring the ADA process

  • Providing support to the HR Manager on employee relations

  • Exposure to, and involvement in, the Talent Review process, including succession planning

     

    WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

     

  • BS degree in Human Resources or a related field; MBA or Masters a plus

  • 5-7 years of work experience as a human resources generalist, preferably within a union-represented mill or plant setting

  • Demonstrated computer competency in MS Office

  • Experience with Kronos helpful

  • Geographically mobile

  • Motivated to attain increasing responsibility and leadership

  • Excellent customer service orientation

  • Strong collaborator

  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Tenacity to see projects through from beginning to end

  • Focused listening skills

  • Resilience and good judgment with the courage to make difficult decisions
